
After arriving Caye Calker, we checked into a little hut at Bella’s hostel – a nice low standard place to sleep, but the common areas literally smelled like shit and the tap water was dirty – no wonder as the backyard was a swamp/junkyard/sewer with crocodiles lurking in the muddy waters! As the last part was unbeknownst to us, we went canoing in the shallow waters in the the back of the island. We had a little swim around the split. The split is the place where the island was divided into two parts during a hurricane back in the day.
